MY MAPS

MY MAPS

This map was taken from the website: "World Religious Belief".  http://www.worldreligiousrelief.com/

This is a world map representing the religious affiliation distribution by greatest number of followers by region. This map shows the dominance of the Catholic faith in Central and South America and all the lands once held by the Spanish (Phillipines and parts of US). I find it interesting the lack of religious identity in eastern China according to this map. I always thought they were predominantly Buddhist. You can also see the extent of the Muslim faith dominating the entirety of what was once the Islam empire. Though Hindu faith is mainly in India, because of India's population that represents a much greater percentage of the world population than this map would suggest. It is also clear that in the jungle regions of Africa and Brazil, there are still indigenous tribes practicing their secular faiths.

This map was taken from the website: "Theme Park Maps" a website dedicated to provide brochures of themeparks throughout the years, all the way from 1931. http://www.themeparkbrochures.net/maps/2010/disneyland2010.html

My next map is that of the Disneyland park. The map highlights the areas of the park by assigning each area a color and a title hovering over the location. The different sections are: Main Street U.S.A., Fantasyland, Toontown, Critter Country, New Orleans Square, Adventureland, Frontierland, and Tomorrowland. At the center of the map is the castle that leads into Fantasyland, where most of the rides for Disney's original cartoon movies are. It is interesting to note that when standing next to the statue of Walt Disney (at the roundabout at the end of Main street U.S.A.) the sun rises from Tomorrow(land) and sets on the Frontier(land), a very powerful analogy.  I include this map because it is probably the map that I know best by heart, and one I use to rely on as a kid.

Hogwarts map

This map was taken from the website: The Harry Potter Lexicon, a website dedicated to the magical world of J.K. Rowling's creation.  http://www.hp-lexicon.org/atlas/hogwarts/atlas-h-large-map.html
My last map is from the realm of fiction. More precisely it is the map of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and the surrounding areas. Though it doesn't really exist, a great number of our global population is familiar with this map and could more easily navigate it than many other maps used in daily life. This map illustrates the important locations and structures that are visited and mentioned in the novels. From the Quidditch Pitch to the town of Hogsmead, to underwater village of the merpeople, this map is very detaild and uses many reference points to guide the reader. Since I (along with many people on this Earth) was once deeply immersed in this world it is very easy for me to read and understand this map. Maps are very versatile and they range from blueprints for buildings and urban designs, to world maps, to treasure hunting maps and many other fictitious maps.
